The Anatomy of a Well Pump Cover

A well pump cover to help insulate against the elementsMost well pump systems look like the one shown in this photo and are found outside in rural areas where city water isn’t readily available. They are made up of a pump, pressure tank, pressure switch, pressure relief valve, control box, and a circuit breaker. There’s also a well head nearby that sticks up a foot or two above ground. In the case where well pump equipment is located outside of a building or home, a well pump cover is strongly recommended.

So what does the anatomy of a Safe-T-Cover well pump cover look like?

Safe-T-Cover’s well pump covers are made from 5052 marine-grade aluminum. This type of aluminum is a hardy material that holds up very well to weather and the elements over time. It will not break down or be a favorite snack of bugs and other critters. It’s offered in three standard colors at no additional cost on our standard models: Sierra Tan, Slate Gray and Hartford Green at no additional cost for standard models.

The interior of a Safe-T-Cover’s well pump cover is lined with polyisocyanurate roofing insulation 1.5” thick in the walls (9.0 “R” value) and 3” thick in the roof (18.0 “R” value). The insulation accomplishes a couple of things. First, it provides some noise dampening capabilities, and second, it helps keep equipment warm and from freezing during the winter months. The last thing anyone needs is for their equipment to freeze, stopping the flow of water to their home or business. Finally, redwood studs are utilized to provide strength and support.

Our Safe-T-Cover well pump covers offer two additional features, one, the ability to secure equipment inside while providing easy access for maintenance and replacement of equipment. Each well pump cover comes with removable and pad-lockable access panels. The roofs are either completely removable as well or are hinged to provide additional access to equipment.

While the well pump cover itself does a nice job of protecting pump equipment inside, you may also want to consider additional items like ventilation to keep equipment from overheating in the summer and heaters to keep things warm and toasty during the harsh winter months.
