Dean and Patty Davenport started an enclosure company called HydroCowl in 1988. HydroCowl made enclosures to house backflow preventers, pumps, meters, control valves and other water equipment. Dean had been a general contractor in Nashville, TN for more than 35 years and he had extensive experience in water systems and fire-water systems. Through the years, Dean Davenport recognized the need for aboveground installation for the Safety and convenience of the inspection and maintenance personnel. Dean developed the concept of creating a simple design enclosure that was easily assembled and had superior accessibility compared to underground vaults or cinder block buildings. Dean also understood the problems and costs associated with placing backflow preventers inside a building.
About 20 years ago, Gerald Pruitt purchased the business and is still running it today. The Safe-T-Cover name was incorporated in the mid 1990’s. Most people know us at Safe-T-Cover, but some still refer to us as HydroCowl. More changes have occurred over the past 29-30 years, but Gerald has always striven to embrace key principals that make Safe-T-Cover what it is today.
