ASSE 1060 LAB TEST RESULTSThe American Society of Sanitary Engineering (ASSE) was founded in 1906 as a body of plumbing inspectors and sanitary engineers to educate the plumbing industry and the public of the health and safety impact of proper plumbing. With the guiding principle of "Prevention Rather Than Cure", ASSE has taken a leading role in development of design and performance standards for numerous plumbing components. ASSE has also published numerous books and technical papers for such technical topics as Plumbing Inspection, Energy and Water Conservation, Plumbing Codes, and Institutional and Industrial Plumbing. In November 1996, ASSE published standard #1060, Performance Requirements for Outdoor Enclosures for Backflow Prevention Assemblies, The ASSE 1060 standard includes performance requirements for adequate protection of above-ground water systems to prevent freezing, avoid submergence, prevent vandalism, provide easy access for testing and maintenance, and provide safe and durable construction and materials. Safe-T-Cover enclosures designed for water systems 3/4" through Parallel 10" were certified to ASSE Standard #1060 in April, 1998. Water purveyors and engineers rely on the technical standards and specifications created by organizations such as ASSE, AWWA, ASME, and USC-FHRCCC by selecting products for use within their water systems or on construction projects certified to these performance standards. NOW, water purveyors and engineers can rely on the technical basis of the ASSE 1060 standard to select adequate protection for water systems best installed outdoors, above-ground. Specifications for enclosures for outdoor water systems should simply state:
